"Table tennis warrior-intellectual-zen archer..." -- Tim Boggan
Among John Tannehill's accomplishments was being a member of the
famous "Ping Pong Diplomacy" 1972 trip to China. At the time he
was ranked 2nd in the United States. Recently he has switched
to playing exclusively with hardbat and is currently the second-highest
USATT-rated hardbat player.
Tannehill currently lives in Columbus, Ohio. His style might be
described as all-around, with superb footwork and a strong forehand.
His play at the 1998 Houston U.S. Open hardbat championships, where
he reached the semifinals, his graceful picture-perfect strokes consistently
drew large crowds.
